What Can I Bring?

Before visiting Alcatraz Island, it's important to know what you can and can't bring.

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit while protecting the island's wildlife, certain items are prohibited.

Prohibited Items

For the safety of all guests and to help preserve Alcatraz Island, the following items are not permitted on Alcatraz City Cruises vessels or Alcatraz Island:

  • Large bags, suitcases, luggage, coolers, and oversized backpacks
  • Oversized items that cannot be easily carried by one person
  • Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, and similar recreational equipment
  • Weapons of any kind, including those carried by off-duty or active-duty law enforcement
  • Drones and other unmanned aircraft 
  • Food and beverages beyond the designated dock area (except bottled water in non-glass containers)

Please note: There are no luggage storage facilities at Pier 33. If you're traveling with large bags or suitcases, please make arrangements before arriving.

Permitted Items

Guests are welcome to bring:

  • Small backpacks up to 16" × 20"
  • Bottled water in non-glass containers
  • Personal cameras and mobile devices
